Nemacon 2012

The day had finally came that i donned my cosplay and ventured out in the beautiful, crappy English weather.

I had been waiting for this day to arrive for the past 5 months when i finally decided what cosplay i was going to do, and how i was going to do it. I knew it was going to be a long shot since no one would know this character and there would be a lot of confusion, but i went ahead with it anyway. Creating it was somewhat challenging because of the materials i was going to use considering i had only started in November last year, and these weren't you're everyday materials. I made my cosplay out of wool. Yes, wool. I knitted my own costume.

I know what you're thinking. She must be mad, knitting is for old people, blah blah blah, well it isn't. A load of famous celebs knit. It's a cheap and unique way of making garments and even plushies of Pokemon!

I since then spent the last 5 months painstakingly constructing my cosplay as well as making a sword and a hat out of paper mache and then knitting covers for them. There were no dress rehearsals so i had no idea how it was going to look like until the day. So all i had to do was work on posing (ha ha). When the day came I couldn't wait to try out my cosplay, and when i did, i almost died. It looked AMAZING! Far better than i expected.

If you're interested i was cosplaying as: 'St. Lucq' from 'The cardinals blades'. Never heard of it? Then go read it. There's pretty girls, dragons, graphic violence, funny stuff and an epic battle!

Day one:
After i finished falling in love, i went into town where Nemacon was and the amount of people stood outside was phenomenal. Unfortunately it had started raining which caused my sword, that had paint on, to run so by the time i got inside my hand were covered in silver paint. After the opening ceremony i went to get my picture taken by professionals. I had my day pre-planned the week before so i went to my first art panel with the lovely *DestinyBlue who graced us with her presence again. The class was only over the road but when i got there they said there was a technical hitch which made me retreat back into the con. Disheartened i went to the dealer room and had a mooch. There i got another drawing off Chie Kutsuwada.

I then stumbled across a stage session with our guest of honor: Greg Aryes. I was enjoying learning about what it's like to be a voice actor and other cool stuffs, until... a pigeon flew on stage, up staging Greg. We ended up giving the name 'Frederick' to the pigeon. After that i went across the road again to another art panel but had to retreat before i got near the road as the gale force winds broke the feather in my hat and nearly broke my sword, and i hadn't been in the cosplay competition yet. So back inside i wondered around a bit more and got another commission from another artist, until the cosplay comp prep. We were taken into a small room for a brief and then to another small room where it seemed to take forever before we left and paraded on the stage. Now i get terrible stage fright, but once i got on ther it was okay until someone asked 'Is that Zorro?' Yes sir, Zorro wears red glasses and half dragon.

Afterwards was the closing ceremony where i stayed back for the 14+ party where Greg Aryes was going to DJ. First up was Superpowerless with there cool techno game theme songs-songs. When we were waiting for the other band, Null white, setting up, i found Greg Aryes talking about his work and that in the other room so i stayed until he had to go back to his hotel room go grab something for his performance. I went back into the main hall where Null White had near enough finished. The last band to play was, Alice moving under the skies, my now new fave band as they were amazing. Greg came back and played his songs and danced with us.

Day two:
At this point i came without my sword as it broke in two places from the previous night but at least i did what i wanted to do before the incident. I mainly spent most of the day walking around in circles unable to make up my mind what i wanted to do or where i wanted to go. So after the opening ceremony i went to an OC panel and another art panel that i risked my hat for (did the smart thing and took it off). Then it was basically wondering around aimlessly for the skit to start (Skit is basically performances on stage). It was totally awesome!

Next came the charity auction where i bid on a piece from *DestinyBlue. I had also brought some plushies i made but they didn't pick the bag up so i had to dash to get them just in time before the closing ceremony. After that i went home.

As you can tell day two was exciting ha ha.

Greg Aryes is going to make another appearance next year which I'm looking forward to. And hopefully Frederick the 'Middlesbrough town hall' pigeon will come back again. He's that famous he had a facebook page within the hour.

Just have to wait till next year now!
